Are you doing your own in-chassis engine rebuild? We can help!
Our Mobile Machinist Services include machining engine blocks to repair the counterbore that the cylinder liner seats on in the engine block. Some cylinder sleeves are on the low end of the protrusion specifications from the factory. So, in those cases, we machine the mid-liner or counter bores to have the correct liner protrusion.
Cummins, Caterpillar, and other manufacturers refer to these repairs and parts in different ways, but rest assured that we have extensive experience machining and repairing wet-sleeved blocks in chassis at our customers’ shops.
If your engine’s mid-stop counterbore (also known as lower receiver bore or lower counter bore) area needs work, we machine the counterbores, clean up any O-ring sealing surfaces, install new liners, and check the liners protrusion for you.
If your engine has an upper deck counterbore, we re-surface the counterbore ledge and install liner shims as needed to provide the correct cylinder liner protrusion.
Notes for Specific Engine Models: To complete our work on the Cat 3306E, Cat 3306, Cat 3406B, Cat 3406, Cat C15, Cat C18, Cat C27, Cat C32, Cummins ISX, Cummins 8.3L, Cummins N14, Detroit 60 Series, Paccar MX13, and Paccar MX11, we need the cylinder head, old sleeves, and pistons removed prior to our arrival. Also, our process requires the removal of the engine’s front cover for the Cat C13, Cat C12, Cummins M11, and Cummins L10.
In all cases, an initial cleaning of the engine block is necessary prior to our arrival. We do our best to capture all shavings and debris from the machining process. Still, the assembly technician is responsible for the final cleaning and inspection of the engine before assembly.
Our experienced machinists perform the following in-chassis services at your location:
- COUNTERBORE CUTTING
- CAM BEARING INSTALLATION
Baril Engine’s mobile machinists regularly travel to customer locations throughout Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. If your location is outside our standard service area, call us, and we will work to see if we can make special arrangements.
